About - Showgirl Competition - Sydney Royal

The Showgirl Competition aims to find a young woman to act as an ambassador for rural NSW with her role involving many official and informal duties both at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and during her travels interstate and overseas.

The Competition encourages the participation and subsequent awareness of rural women’s contribution and involvement in both local communities and rural NSW as a whole.

The Competition plays a significant role in the overall development of rural youth within this country and boasts incredible support from entrants, sponsors and organisers.  Sponsorship at a State level is worth over $40,000 in cash and prizes which does not take into account local Show competitions.

Each year the achievement level is heightened and broadened.  The contestants meet other young women from rural NSW and gain great insights and personal development through this very rare experience.

The contestants are judged on personality, confidence, ambition and life goals, general knowledge, rural knowledge, presentation and speech. Finalists are also asked to demonstrate knowledge of their local community and current affairs. Apart from their potential ambassadorial qualities, contestants are also judged on their involvement in and experience of local and rural affairs.

The winning Showgirl of each local Show Society is selected by a panel of three judges and remains the Showgirl until the following year’s show. She performs various tasks which could include opening a show, public speaking throughout the year, presenting prizes for winners in agricultural events.

Each local Show Society is a member of one of fourteen groups. Two groups combine to form one of seven Zones that make up the NSW area. In February/March of each year, a Zone Final is held to select a representative for the State Final.

Our Castle Hill Showgirl and runner up will be selected in November each year and presented with her sash and prizes on the final presentation day & evening. One of the prizes will be a Personal Development & Training Weekend. The aim of the weekend is to assist the winners of the Showgirl Competition to give them confidence representing their Show Society at Zone Levels, or just to further career prospects. The workshops will be informative and fun. Training will be in Public Speaking, Deportment, Social Etiquette, Wardrobe and Make up.

Our Showgirl will represent our Society at the Zone 2 Final Night.

If our Showgirl is successful she will represent the Zone at the State Final conducted by the Royal Agricultural Society at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in April – where she maybe sashed as “The Land Sydney Royal Showgirl”

All Zone Showgirl Finalists receive:

  • Six days in Sydney during the Royal Easter Show – all expenses paid
